Lister Block Collapse
Hamilton Ontario/MEDIASHOTS
A recent partial collapse doomed a King William Street heritage building to be scheduled for a gradual demolition with intentions to save ornamental windows and fixtures for future reconstruction. Saturday afternoon workers in the rear of the building were notified by passersby that pieces were falling from the front of the building. After a closer inspection it was decided that the building must be taken down immediately. Police blocked traffic while crews prepared hoses to reduce dust as an excavator carefully demolished the front facade. At the same time two workers in a basket brought down the remaining side brick walls by hand. With little effort the bricks dramatically came apart.

Drivin' in to 2008

I got on the Dundas 52 bus to see if anything was happening for New Year’s Eve in Dundas. Not a lot happened in Hamilton this year for folks who prefer not to drive, but I thought surely Dundas, my favourite town, would have something happening. I changed my mind the moment I looked up and saw the driver wearing a top hat and a smile that guaranteed adventure. I wasn't disappointed and the mobile New Year’s Eve celebration was underway. As we picked up more passengers during the evening, including some of Tiffany's friends and regular bus riders, the spirit of 2008 escalated, especially at the stroke of midnight after which every passenger that boarded the bus got greeted with the "Happy New Year" chant yelled from each passenger already on board. With Tiffany's amazing driver skills and customer courtesy, many passengers opted to stay on the bus instead of follow their various celebration plans. From all of us passengers and friends, Happy New Year Tiffany and thanks!
New Years Day
This is the start of a new year. My friend Larry Strung has a new project called www.hamilton365.com and this guy has a lot of talent, business sense and motivation so add his project to your favourites. I'm starting off my new URBANITES 2008 Project by napping part of my day away. I got my photo last night as you will see in my next entry.
